all I want for Christmas...

So I brought up the Wii conversation with Chikara. Is anybody else having a hard time deciding what to get their kids for Christmas? Maybe it's just me. Can I explain? Yes, because this is my blog (even though I haven't written for awhile).

We have four girls and although they have different personalities for the most part they play with the same toys. Which means that Natsuki is playing with toys that Emi played with when she was the same age and really, if you want to get into it, she wears some of the same clothes, too. But I don't have space for more toys. We have dolls and accessories, Barbies and accessories, kitchen toys, princess dress-up clothes and accessories (four pairs of Princess heels!), shelfloads of books, Sylvania Family toys and accessories and Lego plus a neverending mountain of miscellaneous toys. I also keep them in constant supply of paper, crayons, color pencils, stickers and playdough. They enjoy the toys that we have and they take good care of them so that really Natsuki is playing with the same toys that Emi did. I even rotate the toys around and keep some hidden away in our loft so the kids don't get bored.

So my problem is what to get them for Christmas and also Emi for her birthday (the 16th). Emi is turning 9 this year and Chikara really wanted to get her a normal-sized guitar but I talked him into waiting until next year. If she got it this year it would be nice but I think she'll appreciate it more next year plus it's the perfect memorable 10th birthday present. I've been making lists of possible Christmas presents and they're all "side presents" or presents that would build up to the "big present" so I'm totally stumped.

Up until now, we've avoided DS and Wii on purpose. We have a lot of reasons but the biggest are that we want the girls to interact and play with each other and learn how to use their imagination and creative side. I'm crap at drawing but Chikara is very gifted and I want the girls to have time to explore that area of their DNA. Actually Misaki won 3rd place for a drawing she did at school last year and my first thought was,"Wow, she definitely got that from Chikara". Also playing together develops social skills and problem-solving skills. And if all that isn't enough we want to teach the girls music and also work on their English reading and writing skills and if we buy a Wii set I just can't picture how we're going to do all of this is in the amount of time available each day.

So my reasons for not buying a Wii are plentiful and my reasons for buying a Wii are that I don't have any other good ideas for Christmas presents and I think it'd be fun. Arghh...

While I think about it, take a look at this. I love the Muppets!

I say maybe get the wii and let them play with it for a few days. Then maybe make it a reward for when they're done everything else. Or even just for a bit before bed and they have to play with eacthother so they're still interacting with people. Shelley and I played Nintendo when we were younger (and now) and it was something that we could do together. I think it will be a good thing. MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!

Loved that Bohemian Rhapsody the muppets did. Would you believe I actually remember watching that on PBS. : ) LOL. I thought Beaker and Animal pretty much rocked it, right? wink wink. ; ) I'm glad you showed this, you made me smile first thing this morning. : ) : )

Good luck in figuring out what to get the kids for Christmas. Whatever you decide I'm sure they'll love it. : )

i like wii, it's different from other systems because you can use your body. maybe not the same as going outside and playing but in the winter, and the very hottest part of summer, and maybe even during rainy season, it's a great option. not the only thing to play, obviously, but one of many. hiro can do it, and he's five (we have wii fit and wii sports), though most of the games are still too much for him. we also got him a bike for his birthday, so he spends plenty of time outside, too! good luck in your decision!

I agree with what Illahee said, the Wii is a lot different to the playstaton or a DS because it involves moving around and being active.

If you set rules to limit the amount of usage or something like that, then I think it would make a great present for your girls. I bet they would love playing with it together!!

If you saw your Dad doing his yoga on the Wii Fit, you would run not walk to the nearest Wii selling establishment - the cute factor is astronomical! Plus, can you just picture how cute all the little Mii's will look? Plus, Grammy can play when she comes to Japan. Plus, you can do your own fitness on WiiFit when the girls are at school. Plus, when the girls go to bed, you can beat the pants off Chikara at Jumping Cows....but that's just my opinion..... love Mom

I say go for the WII as well- I think on holidays (especially winter ones) let them run free with it if they are happy and then during the school year place limits like others have said.

It is great for when friends come over too and I am sure you will not be getting calls of "Im bored" from your kids.

You could always do some stocking stuffers with books and/or games. My parents always gave us boardgames when we were little as a joint present along with some things just for us. With four girls though and so many toys already it would be hard!

Good luck deciding!

We're in a similar situation with 4 kids, although we have 2 boys 2 girls. I find it rather sad that it's come to wracking our brains for something because we 'have' to buy Xmas presents, but the fact is there is just enough of everything already in the house, the kids don't even know what they want.
If only we could get away with buying a new P.E. kit or a set of school notebooks ;LOL things they actually NEED.
We're are thinking of going for the Wii, which I don't mind per se, I just mind cos we can't think of anything else iykwim?
